What size are iPhone Duo screenshots?
iPhone Duo is a foldable phone, with a compact outer display and a large inner display. App Store Connect has a separate screenshot size for each display, and each one comes in two orientations.
| Display | Portrait (pixels) | Landscape (pixels) |
|---|---|---|
| Outer display | 1398 × 2034 | 2034 × 1398 |
| Inner display | 2007 × 2853 | 2853 × 2007 |
These are the exact sizes in Apple’s screenshot specifications. Upload files at these pixel dimensions, not close to them.
Portrait or landscape is your choice. Apple suggests sharing screenshots that highlight your app across orientations, so it’s worth picking the orientation that shows your app best on each display.
Apple’s rules for iPhone Duo screenshots
File format, transparency and count
Apple accepts .jpeg, .jpg or .png files, and you can upload up to 10 screenshots per device size. Images can’t include alpha channels or transparencies (Apple).
Screenshots also have to follow the App Review Guidelines. Guideline 2.3.3 says they should show the app in use, not merely the title art, login page or splash screen.
The iPhone Duo badge
Apple says that when you submit iPhone Duo screenshots in App Store Connect, your product page will display a badge to let people know your app is optimized for iPhone Duo (Apple).
When they become required
Apple’s screenshot specifications say: “Starting in April 2027, screenshots will be required for any app using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later.” Apple’s developer news post puts it more broadly: “Starting April 2027, any apps or games submitted will need to include screenshots for iPhone Duo.”
Before you capture: build with the iOS 27.1 SDK
Your screenshots can only show what your build shows. Apple explains how the SDK you build with changes your app on iPhone Duo (Apple):
- iOS 26 SDK or earlier: the app runs, but won’t adapt to all layouts. When the device is open, it sits in the center with empty space around the window.
- iOS 27 SDK: the app fills most of the inner display, but still avoids the status bar on the right edge.
- iOS 27.1 SDK or later: the app is optimized for iPhone Duo. It uses the full display, with toolbars and tab bars shown vertically below the status bar.
Apple also warns that hardcoded screen sizes, fixed orientations and device assumptions can break layouts, leading to stretched, clipped or misplaced content. Fix those first, or they’ll end up in your screenshots.
Apple’s news post says to recompile existing apps with Xcode 27.1, which adds development support for iPhone Duo. Before shipping, Apple also asks you to make sure your content adapts to the bars becoming vertical.
How to capture screenshots for both displays
Use Device Hub in Xcode. Run your app on a simulated or physical device, go to the screen you want, and click the Screenshot button below the device. Device Hub saves the screenshot to your Desktop at the device’s full resolution, whatever your Mac’s display (Apple).
For iPhone Duo, Apple says the iPhone Duo simulator in Xcode 27.1 is the best way to test the full experience (Apple). When the app runs there, check both displays: closed, open and partially folded, and rotated in each pose (Apple).
Plan the set before you capture
Write down the screens you want, in order, before you open Device Hub. The outer display is compact, so pick screens that read at a glance. The inner display has room for wider layouts, like a sidebar next to a list.
Capture the same screens on both displays where you can. People then see the same story whichever size they look at.
Capture checklist
- Build with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later before you capture anything.
- Capture the outer display with the device closed, and the inner display with it open.
- Choose portrait or landscape for each display and keep it for the whole set.
- Check every screen for clipped views, content in the fold and the new vertical bars.
- Use the same sample data on every screen, so the set reads as one story.
- Check each file’s pixel size against Apple’s table before you design on top of it.

The same habits apply to the rest of your set. If you’re updating your App Store screenshots for other devices, capture them from the same build. Not sure your current set works? Get free feedback first.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Stretching iPhone screenshots. The Duo canvases have different proportions from iPhone ones, so a stretched iPhone screen distorts text and UI. Capture on iPhone Duo instead.
- Using the wrong size. Swapping the outer and inner sizes, or exporting a scaled-down file, gives you a size that isn’t in Apple’s table.
- Leaving transparency in. PNG exports can carry an alpha channel even when nothing looks transparent. Flatten the file before you upload.
- Capturing an older build. A build made with an earlier SDK shows empty space or avoids the status bar, which doesn’t match the optimized layout.
- Showing only a splash or login screen. Guideline 2.3.3 asks for the app in use.
How to upload them in App Store Connect
You can upload screenshots on the version page or in Asset Library when your app has one of these statuses: Prepare for Submission, Invalid Binary, Rejected, Metadata Rejected or Developer Rejected. You’ll need the Account Holder, Admin, App Manager or Marketing role (Apple).
Upload checklist
- In Apps, select your app.
- In the sidebar, select the app version under the platform you want to edit.
- For another localization, choose the language from the pop-up menu on the top right.
- Under Product Page Information, click the App Previews and Screenshots tab.
- Under Previews and Screenshots, select the device tab for the screenshots you’re adding.
- Click Upload, or drag your screenshots into the right well.
- Check how they look with Apple’s preview tool, then submit them for review.
Apple’s new preview tool in App Store Connect shows how your screenshots, product page headers and other metadata look on iPhone Duo. If you’re also changing your iOS 27 product page header or app preview video, check them there together.
Apple also invites you to submit a featuring nomination in App Store Connect, so the App Store editorial team knows your app supports iPhone Duo.
